What's a Creative Project I'd Like to Pursue? (Hint: It Starts with Inner Stillness)

Image
Every now and then, a quiet voice inside nudges us toward something deeper. Not just a hobby. Not just another goal on a list. But something that feels like a calling. For me, that calling is Vedantic wisdom and the creative project I’m pursuing is a book that brings its timeless insights into today’s world, in a way that’s accessible, practical, and deeply personal. Why Vedanta? And Why Now? We live in a world of constant noise, deadlines, distractions, digital everything. But amid all that motion, I found myself drawn to something quieter, more ancient. Something that speaks not just to the mind, but to the Self. Vedanta, the spiritual philosophy rooted in the Vedas and Upanishads isn’t just about abstract ideas or mystic verses. It’s about the inner journey : Who am I? What is reality? What brings true peace? And while these are ancient questions, they’ve never felt more relevant. From Notes to Manuscript: The Spark of a Book Over the past few years, I’ve been scribbling do...

Shabarimala issue - Hypocrisy of secularism

Image
Shabarimala has become a hot topic where a tradition of the temple, unique to this place is being questioned. Before I go any further let me tell the readers that my personal belief is that menstruation being a natural process experienced by females should not be a reason to restrict women from visiting any temple. Maybe traditionally women were restricted as there was no provision in those days to maintain proper hygiene during periods. Today the situation is different. At the same time, I do not agree that a decision regarding this should get enforced by Supreme Court as the tradition does not amount to cruelty to women.  A change has to happen for sure but definitely not by enforcement but by arriving at a consensus. If a place of worship is turning into a conflict zone then status quo should be maintained. The communists who claim to be non believers should not be playing politics in matters of faith. If they are hell bent on playing politics with matters of faith then s...

Happy Birthday Krishna!

Image
Today is Krishna's birthday and the atmosphere in Mumbai makes one realize that it is a special day. There is lot of energy in the air due to the Govindas who would be traveling the length and width of Mumbai and its suburbs for the Dahi Handi festival. Huge sum of money is waiting to be won by the Govindas for breaking the handis (clay pots) hung at great heights. Some as high as 9 or 10 tier high. It is exciting to watch the human pyramids being built and on few occasions you feel your heart popping out when you see the human pyramids fall like pack of cards. Krishna's birthday may have been commercialized and politicized these days but his teachings has stood the test of time. He is the most practical God. Even a non-believer will not be able to counter the Law of Karma as it is something even science talks about. Cause and effect is a universal phenomenon. A believer talks about Law of Karma while a non-believer understands Newton's third law of motion. ...

Yoga – Is it religious?

Image
There is lot of debate going on regarding Surya Namaskar and how celebrating Yoga day is being insensitive of religious freedom of other religions. This blog post of mine is to express my opinion about the whole issue. I am a Hindu and I do Surya Namaskar. May not be regularly but atleast 3-4 times in a week. After doing Surya Namaskar I feel energetic and lively and it helps start my day on a positive note. When I do Surya Namaskar, I am mentally reciting the 12 names of the Sun God at different positions involved in it. So for me it is a combination of physical exercise and worship of Sun God. Now, suppose a non-believer or someone practicing some other religion does Surya Namaskar, he or she need not recite the names of the Sun God and need not perceive it as worship of Sun God. They can always consider it like any other cardio vascular exercise that gets your heart pumping. If that doesn’t work out well, then one may remember their own God when doing the Surya ...

Why do I believe in God?

Image
This post is in a way, a follow-up of a previous blog post about God . A recent article I read about God by an atheist prompted me to write about my views about Him. I think trying to perceive God with human attributes is where the problem lies. Both believers and atheists are guilty of this. Atheists always have questioned His existence because scientifically we are not able to prove it. However, there are many things that we are still not able to prove scientifically. Even in science, there are theories and assumptions made. Many scientific theories and assumptions haven’t stood the test of time. Something that was considered a perfect theory is now being questioned. Science does not have answers to so many questions which have existed since time immemorial. I am not being superstitious. I am only saying that science still has limitations. This does not mean that I am denouncing scientific temper. I strongly believe that you should always try to think rationally before you do...
